School Meals

At King Harold's our canteen is run by Edwards & Blake Catering who provide a daily selection of healthy hot meals, sandwiches, pasta dishes, snacks and drinks.

A copy of the hot, main meal menu is available on the left and operates on a 3 weekly cycle.

The canteen runs a cashless catering system using a thumb print or a pin code instead of money for payment. Each student has an account that they access using their thumb print/pin code and they are able to add money to this using the cash machine located near the canteen. When a student starts at KHA their parent/carer is asked to give permission for a thumb print to be scanned and stored for this purpose. If agreement is not given then a pin code can be issued instead.

Presently we do not have on-line facility to add funds to a student's account. However, we are currently working on installing a system that will enable payments to the school, including school meals and trips, to be made on-line and hope to have this working in the near future.

Free School Meals

As an academy we deal with Free School Meals (FSM) in house which means that parents/carers have to apply via the school. If your child is eligible for FSM they will have £2.04 a day and they can spend this a break and lunchtime. You can add your own extra money on top if need be.

In England, children are eligible to receive free school meals (FSM) if their parents are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

• Income Support (IS)
• Income-based Job Seekers' Allowance (JSA)
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (IAA)
• The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit (SPC)
• Child Tax Credit (CTC), provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

Proof of one of the above must be produced (original document, not copies) to the school before this form can be processed.  Documents must be dated within 2 months of your application and, if you are claiming under CTC, it must be your 2015/16 assessment, if you have not received a new assessment because your circumstances haven’t changed please provide us with your most up to date letter and sign the declaration on the back of this letter. No other benefits are acceptable.

If your benefit ceases, your annual taxable income increases to over £16,190, or you are awarded Working Tax Credit, your child no longer qualifies for free school meals and you must let us know immediately. You will be required to repay the money to the school for meals taken if you continue to claim them when your child is no longer entitled.

Application Process

When an application has been agreed we will send a letter to the parent/carer confirming the award and the expiry date.

If you have any queries, please contact the school on 01992 714800.
