Year 7 Buzzing about books

Our Year 7s are buzzing about books!

For the third consecutive year, King Harold Academy are working alongside the national charity Book Trust to gift all of our Year 7 Students with a brand new book.

The students will chose from 17 fantastic titles during this autumn term. The students have been visiting the Learning Resource Centre to read the sample books on display and some have taken part in a speed-dating style lesson to ‘meet the books’.

The reading scheme aims to promote a more positive attitude towards reading for pleasure and enjoyment, encourages independent book choices, and develops a whole school reading culture.

The school’s Librarian and organiser, Giselle Morris says ‘This is a fantastic way to develop excitement about books and reading. There are a huge range of titles to choose from by established and up and coming authors, our current Year 8-10s who have previously been involved in the scheme, are pretty upset that they’re not involved again this year. I think that is a testament to the positive impact that this scheme has in developing a love for reading and literacy.
