Head's Letter

 30th November 2017

Dear Parents/Carers

As you are aware King Harold is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) which oversees over 40 schools, both primary and secondary.  I am intensely proud of King Harold Academy which is now one of the best schools within TKAT and we continue to go from strength to strength.  This is a very exciting time in the development of our school and we are working hard to continue to build on our successes over the past few years.  More students than ever applied to be part of Year 7 in September 2018 and we continue to work hard with Debden Park High School on the transition for many of our Year 11 students from here to studying A Levels there.

I am thrilled to welcome to our Leadership Team Mr Ian Tilbury, Director for Learning for TKAT, who joins us as Associate Head of School.  Mr Tilbury was previously Director of Learning at Debden Park High School and an integral part of the Leadership Team there when the school were judged to be Outstanding in January 2017.  His role here will be to lead the school in my absence as I am going to support another TKAT primary school in Essex.  As you may know my previous post was as Headteacher of one of the most challenging primary schools in TKAT, a school which has now been judged as Good.  From January I am going to be the Headteacher of Stapleford Abbotts Primary as well as Head of School at King Harold, and will split my time between the 2 schools. I would like you to rest assured that myself, Mr Tilbury and Mr Cavanagh our Executive Head will continue to ensure that your child continues to receive the exceptional education that they deserve.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and carers who have given their time to attend many of our events this term.  The attendance at both our Academic review days has been exceptional. Also, the number of parents at both ‘Making the Grade’ for year 11 and the Parents forum was particularly impressive. Your ongoing support for this school and the progress that it makes is attributed to the collaborative work of yourselves, your child and the staff of King Harold Academy.  If you do have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

Kim Thackray                                                   Christian Cavanagh
